During the economic recession, professionals who were previously secure in their positions and plans for a sure-fire rise in the corporate world were suddenly forced to re-think their perspectives. They discovered that their world isn’t as secure and stable as they believed it was. This applies specifically to those working in the management, banking and lawful fields, which have been one of the toughest hit by the crisis. During that time, top-of-the-line executives, high-ranking officers, and managers on their way to the top were suddenly dropped out of their cushy comfort zone. They realised how misleading success in the commercial field can be, and could be shaken with just a little adjustment of the economic status.
A lot of those affected by the economic downturn considered an employment change, even when they have already made massive strides in their existing industries. A few of them begun to look forward to a more “meaningful career,” and looked for something to do that helps them earn a living and affect positive changes in the society at the same time. For others, the switch is mostly a practical choice. Some jobs simply have a reliable and consistent requirement, and moving in those jobs means a more secure future. And among all other career shift options, educational jobs ended up being some of the most popular options.
It’s a special incentive that the hardworking educator enjoys benefits that some professionals don’t get to experience. Competitive wages are offered by both the public and private universities sector, as these institutions still find it difficult to seek and keep excellent teachers that will satisfy the national educational goal. Only a teacher gets to enjoy academic breaks with kids while school is out, a generous vacation scheme that’s actually necessary for keeping the mind and energy renewed for the next busy school season. Being a member of a long-standing profession, educators are supported by powerful, established networks such as teachers unions and national associations that defend and fight for the privileges of workers in the sector. All these benefits and advantages can make a teaching tenure one of the most attractive options for securing the future with a life-long profession.
Meanwhile, those who made the big leap to a teaching profession should understand that aside from the stability, teaching offers them an opportunity to develop and nurture their expertise by spreading it with a new generation. A dedication to learning and discipline for constant improvement is a strategy for success and security not just in teaching, but in any other role in the professional arena.
